K.S.R.T.C. loves Mercedes-Benz

BANGALORE: The KSRTC fleet now includes a bus from the stable of internationally-renowned Mercedes-Benz. Minister for Transport R Ashok, flagged off the bus at the KSRTC central office on Monday. The bus will initially operate on the Bangalore-Mysore route on a trial basis. On completion of a successful trial on this route, the trial run will be extended to the Bangalore-Chennai or Bangalore-Mumbai route, Ashok said. One Mercedes-Benz bus will cost the KSRTC around Rs 65 lakh. However, the bus to conduct a trial run was offered to the KSRTC free of cost by the manufacturer.KSRTC has got some of its drivers trained to handle the new bus at the Pune training centre of Mercedes-Benz, he said.KSRTC is the first state transport corporation in the country to operate a Mercedes- Benz bus.The international standard bus has latest passenger facilities and has been modified to suit the Indian conditions, the minister said.Apart from reclining seats, night lamps and twin LCD TV screen, the bus has full air suspension for passenger comfort and safety, carrier make air-conditioning system to enhance passenger comfort, four emergency exits on either side, toughened and clear window glasses, larger driver vision area, 10 cubic metre luggage space and better fuel efficiency. It also complies with Euro III emission standards.KSRTC will soon start providing snacks to commuters on long route buses, Ashok said.

Free bus passes distributed At another event at Corporation School, Padmanabhanagar, Ashok distributed free bus passes to primary and secondary school students. Girls studying in classes VIII to X received passes at 25 per cent discount.
